Safety Operating Procedures for Diamond PDC Drill Bits in Geological Exploration

25-02-2026

Geological exploration with PDC drill bits is carried out using large mechanized drilling rigs, and some rigs involve electrical operations. Therefore, operators (rig captains) must be fully familiar with and strictly comply with safety operating procedures. As a PDC bit manufacturer, we recognize our responsibility to protect the lives and property of frontline drilling personnel. For this reason, detailed operating procedures are provided with every product sold to fulfill our duty of safety notification.

The compiled safety procedures for PDC drill-bit geological exploration are as follows:

  1. Personnel engaged in geological drilling must complete three-level safety training and pass the required assessment before taking up their posts. New employees must work under the guidance of a team leader or an experienced operator.

  2. Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited before and during work shifts.

  3. Personnel involved in drilling operations must not have occupational contraindications. Whether performing derrick installation and dismantling or routine on-site production, workers must meet the following health requirements: no hearing or speech impairment, no color blindness, normal hearing, and corrected visual acuity of no less than 1.0 in each eye; no history of hysteria, epilepsy, or other conditions that may cause sudden fainting. Individuals with hypertension are not suitable for rig-floor work.

  4. All personnel entering the worksite, including for derrick installation or dismantling, must wear required personal protective equipment. Entry and operation are prohibited without proper protection. Minimum requirements include:
    (1) safety helmet
    (2) work clothing
    (3) safety shoes or rubber boots
    (4) safety harness when climbing the derrick

  5. The rig captain must strictly follow the work schedule set by the site safety management team, ensure continuous attendance during operations, shut down equipment promptly after shifts, and complete routine maintenance. Unauthorized operation outside approved working hours is strictly forbidden.

  6. The rig captain must complete annual renewal and inspection of all required industry certificates on time, continuously strengthen technical knowledge and practical skills through ongoing learning, improve professional competence, and strive to set an example in standardized operations—thereby supporting industry-wide standardization and promoting a strong culture of safe operations.
