A Brief Discussion on the Advantages of Diamond Drill Bits

30-04-2026

Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) is a special superhard material synthesized in a single high-temperature, high-pressure process that bonds synthetic diamond with cemented carbide. It combines the key strengths of both materials: the extreme hardness and wear resistance of diamond, and the impact resistance and edge exposure performance of carbide.
When used as cutting wings on drill bits, PDC significantly improves drilling efficiency, making it an ideal option for medium-hard to hard rock formations. It is widely used in coal mining, oil drilling, water conservancy and hydropower construction, railway and highway engineering, and tunnel excavation.

The diamond drill bits produced by our company use bit bodies forged from high-quality 42CrMo steel. They are processed through fully automatic vacuum heat treatment, which effectively improves mechanical properties and provides solid stability for the entire bit.
To match different formation requirements, the products are divided into several series, each with distinct advantages:

  1. Standard Two-Wing PDC Anchor Bit (Full-Cutter Standard / Half-Cutter Standard)
The cutting wings are made with high-quality domestic PDC cutters and are suitable for formations up to Grade 8 hardness. Under comparable conditions, service life can reach 10–30 times that of conventional alloy bits, while operating efficiency improves by at least 60%.
In addition, these bits generally do not require regrinding, which reduces labor intensity and saves substantial man-hours.

  2. Reinforced Two-Wing PDC Anchor Bit (Full-Cutter Reinforced / Half-Cutter Reinforced)
The cutting-wing core material uses products from GE (USA). Compared with ordinary bits, diamond content is increased by 50%, resulting in greatly improved wear resistance.
While boosting efficiency, this design also lowers overall construction cost and is suitable for medium-hard formations up to Grade 12.

  3. High-Strength Diamond Bit
This series uses newly developed spherical diamond cutters on the wings, offering fast penetration and strong impact resistance. During drilling, the lip edge delivers stable scraping of uniform rock layers, while the protruding structure helps suppress sudden over-penetration when the bit encounters fractures or voids.
This reduces the risk of accidental bit damage and improves adaptability in complex formations.
